Rent Assistance in Southwest Kansas
The Ford County Housing Authority offers rental assistance through the HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program to help low- to very low-income households across our 28-county service area in Southwest Kansas. (Note: This program does not cover households within the city limits of Dodge City or Great Bend.)

Families must meet income and eligibility requirements to receive assistance. A “family” can be a single person, and you do not have to be elderly to qualify. HUD vouchers are issued when you reach your turn on the waiting list, allowing you to rent an existing house, duplex, apartment, single room, or mobile home from a private owner.

Important Information Before You Apply

• Current wait time: 1–2 years from the date we receive your complete application and all supporting documents.

• Eligibility: Income limits apply. All adults must sign the application.

• Program standards: Housing units must meet HUD Housing Quality Standards and pass inspections.​

Step 2 – Complete Your Application

1. Fill out each required form completely and honestly.

2. Make sure all adults in your household sign where indicated.

3. Gather required supporting documents (birth certificates, Social Security cards, immigration documents, income verification, etc.).

4. Keep original documents — only send copies unless told otherwise.

Step 3 – Submit Your Application & Documents

Choose one of these submission methods:

• Email: Scan and email to housing@swksaging.org (photos accepted at this time).

• Mail: Ford County Housing Authority, PO Box 1636, Dodge City, KS 67801

• In Person: Deliver to our office during business hours.

After You Apply

• We will confirm if your initial application is complete.

• Incomplete or unreadable applications will be returned and not processed.

• Once accepted, your name will be placed on the waiting list.

• When your name reaches the top, you’ll receive further instructions and an Application Update packet to complete within 10 working days.
